Certificate of Recognition (COR) Audit Preparation
We ensure that your company is prepared before you book your COR audit. We will review your program, identify potential gaps and help you improve your safety program before the external audit. Once your company achieves a strong COR score, a 10% rebate on WCB premiums would be paid as a first-time COR holder as a minimum return on investment.
Employers are also eligible for the other two measurements in Partnerships in Injury Reduction (PIR) – improving your performance and maintaining industry leadership. Achieving these two measurements could bump your business’s total premium refund to 20%.
Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Committee Review and Development
Do you need a new Safety Committee established? Does your old Safety Committee need a rework? We can ensure you have a Joint Work Site Health and Safety Committee compliant with recent Provincial regulatory changes.
Regulatory Compliance Assistance
Does your Health and Safety Program need a check-up to ensure compliance with current Provincial regulations? Perhaps your company has received an OHS Order, Demand, or maybe you’ve been made known of other corrective actions taken against your company. We can help with all of your regulatory assistance with our Certified Safety Consultants.
Hazard Assessment Review and Development
We will assist in creating a hazard assessment program that will increase worker safety, ensure compliance with provincial legislation, and achieve a strong COR audit score. Building a hazard assessment process with your company confirms that the materials we create together are clear and effective for your workforce.
Emergency Response Planning
We will develop an emergency response plan unique to your company that covers real-life scenarios your organization might face. Our team also has the knowledge needed to review your current Emergency Response Plan (ERP) to find and assist in fixing any identifiable gaps.
Business Continuity Planning
Beyond emergency management, business continuity planning is a framework for identifying an organization’s risk of exposure to internal and external threats. A business continuity plan will ensure your company is up and running in as little time as possible after a disaster, minimizing operational loss.
What is COR / SECOR?
A Certification of Recognition (COR) is a provincially regulated safety program recognizing employers who have successfully developed and implemented a health and safety program. Companies with COR have certified health and safety management programs evaluated by certified industry partners who have deemed the programs meet the requirements of provincial regulatory standards. A Small Employer Certificate of Recognition (SECOR) is the same thing, but for smaller employers.
Why does my company want COR?
Your certification must be achieved and maintained as part of the Alberta Workers’ Compensation Board (WCB) and Partnerships in Injury Reduction (PIR) program to receive the financial benefits of COR. Once issued, companies with COR can receive an annual rebate of up to 20% of their WCB premiums.
Bidding on Contracts
It is advantageous while bidding for companies to demonstrate having an active health and safety management system. Participation in the COR program gives that edge. Providing immediate proof that your company has an effective health and safety management system in place will provide your organization the advantage it needs, creating more opportunities for your company.
By developing and maintaining an effective health and safety management system, the firm’s reputation is enhanced within its industry and the community. Working to eliminate workplace injury and illness proactively helps attract safety-conscious workers while driving employee morale and engagement.
Industries throughout Canada recognize the COR audit criteria. Upon certification, your company will be part of a nationwide network that promotes and participates in health and safety excellence.
How do I get COR?
COR Pre-Auditing Program
In working with the COR program, our Pre-Audit service will review the requirements for certification with your people and outline the criteria for a successful audit. A gap analysis between what is required and what you have will set you on the right path to success. This service saves your company time and money in the COR process. Effective health and safety management systems reduce injuries, which controls the escalation of company insurance and WCB premiums.
Certificate of Recognition (COR) Preparation
Artis’ auditors and associate auditors are certified to perform COR audits and to evaluate health and safety programs currently in place at your company.
Upon successful completion, a certificate would be issued by Alberta Labour and Immigration and co-signed by certifying partners, recognizing that the employer’s health and safety management system has been evaluated by a certified auditor and found to meet the standards of the partnership.
Audits typically include interviews, documentation review, and observation techniques to evaluate how well the employer can identify, assess, and control risks to workers.
